Late Summer Flower Portraits, 2022

I collected the little fellows portrayed in this series around my studio. As a former biologist I’m trained to see them as mere representatives of their species but as a portrait photographer I’m more interested in their individuality.

Yes, some look like they are straight out of a botanical determination book. Yet most of them have their imperfections—sometimes small, sometimes big. They all have their own character, and some are already dried up and dead. It is this individuality I love them for.

In a few days or weeks they all will be gone.
